For almost 45 years MRI has trained thousands of professionals in the behavioral sciences via workshops, training programs, and formal presentations. Through these programs, as well as our many publications, MRI has achieved unique national and international prestige. In keeping with our mission, we have expanded our clinical and training services to accommodate the needs of agencies that can benefit greatly from our time-tested results.
MRI offers customized training in Problem-solving Brief and Strategic therapy for agencies and their clinicians. We specialize in providing comprehensive techniques that are applicable for a wide variety of populations. Brief therapy instruction is available in both English and Spanish and Strategic therapy instruction is only available in English at this time. We can accommodate agencies whose numbers are small or large, prefer onsite or offsite training, and are located anywhere in the US and abroad.
Karin Schlanger, MFT and Eileen Bobrow, MFT have many years experience as clinicians and instructors. Their devotion to their craft is evident in the superb assistance they provide clients, interns, and licensed practitioners.
“Problem-Solving Brief Therapy is more than just a way to do therapy, it is a more positive way of looking at the world.” Karin has worked for MRI for over 26 years. She studied and worked closely with Dr. Richard Fisch, Dr. Paul Watzlawick, and Dr. John Weakland for most of that time. Additionally, she worked in the Center for the Treatment of Eating Disorders and with the Latino population at San Francisco General Hospital. Later, during her work in the therapeutic community, she applied brief therapy principles to clients that were labeled as schizophrenic and manic-depressive. Karin has been an assistant professor at the University of San Francisco and the University of Notre Dame. She published Brief Therapy with Intimidating Cases: How to Change the Unchangeable together with Dr. Richard Fisch, which has been translated into five languages. Currently, Karin is working at the East Palo Alto High School Academy, a Charter school founded by Stanford University, School of Education, to serve underprivileged children and their families. 75% of the population is Latino, 15% African-American, and 10% Pacific Islander. |
“In Strategic Family Therapy the therapist takes responsibility for the outcome of the therapy. It is the simple acknowledgement that you make a difference.” Eileen has been in practice for 36 years. She joined MRI over 10 years ago and is the founder of the Problem-solving Strategic Family Therapy Center. She was a Regional Faculty Member at the Family Therapy Institute of Washington, D.C, having trained with its founders, Cloé Madanes and Jay Haley, who was an original member of the Bateson Team and MRI’s first Research Director. In the 1970s, Eileen also worked and collaborated with Steve De Shazer, and studied Gestalt therapy under Fritz Perls and hypnosis with Milton Erickson. She was an Associate Professor of the Gestalt Institute of San Francisco, and worked as a researcher in Psychology at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. In the past year, Eileen has been busy doing ongoing and video conferencing consultations and behind the mirror interventions with many agencies, including, but not limited to, Youth Contact, Hillsboro Oregon, EMQ, Campbell, Ca., and San Diego Youth and Services. |
