3-Day Brief Therapy Intensive: Learning by Doing

Katharina Anger, Ph.D.
Dr. Anger is a Research Associate and a member of the training faculty at the Brief Therapy Center, MRI. Additionally, she is the Senior Supervisor at YAI National Institute for People with Disabilities. At YAI she developed and runs three programs: Brief Therapy, Sexuality, and a Group Psychotherapy Program. Dr. Anger also maintains a private clinical practice in New York City. In August 2009 Dr. Anger presented “Brief Therapy with Chronic Problems: Working with Autism and other Developmental Disabilities" at MRI’s 50th Anniversary Conference in San Francisco.

Course Description:

Participants will learn the fundamentals of the MRI Brief Therapy model. Attendees will be presented with a variety of examples and will learn through interactive role-play how to invent strategies and facilitate change with their clients. This workshop is ideal for the individual who has an introductory understanding of Brief Therapy and would like to enhance and expand his or her skill set. Participants will be able to easily grasp the concepts meanwhile apply them in their own practice.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to identify and define the steps of the Brief Therapy model.
2. Participants will know how to identify who the customer(s) for change is and how to engage them.
3. Participants will be able to demonstrate interviewing skills specific to defining a workable problem.
4. Participants will begin to be able to analyze what has not been working and have some ideas about how to plan an alternative strategy.
5. Participants will be able to identify several techniques for increasing motivation and facilitating change.

9am – 12 noon and 1:30pm – 4:30 pm
Working with unusual and difficult situations/Case Consultation

Continuing Education Credits

18 Continuing Education Units, approved for MFT’s, LCSW’s, as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, Provider #PCE 14, & by the California Board of Registered Nurses, BRN #2062.

Cost: $600.00

Cancellation Policy: There is a 25% Administrative Fee for all cancellations.
